Prabahan Shakya, known by his stage name Imon, is a Delhi-based singer/songwriter and producer who has been captivating audiences across India for the last seven years. Imon writes primarily in English, occasionally experimenting with Assamese verses, drawing inspiration from his rainy hometown of Guwahati. Influenced by artists like Jeff Buckley, Hozier, and Bon Iver, his debut single "Homage" showcases his vocal-centric style and ethereal soundscapes.
Imon began his musical journey at 14, after receiving his first guitar and completing his Visharad in Hindustani Classical vocals at 15. Discovering rock music online shaped his tastes for years. In 2015, he moved to Delhi to study History at Delhi University, joining Ramjas College's prestigious western music society, where he was introduced to jazz, neo-soul, and a cappella. Performing his originals in Delhi's venues, his songwriting evolved, focusing on themes of time and change, enhanced by his postgraduate studies in performance, ethnomusicology, and music history at Ambedkar University.
In 2021, Imon completed training in Audio Engineering and Music Production at Sri Aurobindo Centre for Arts and Communication, which solidified his professional production career. His accolades include a cover of "Yesterday" selected for a masterclass by Berklee Indian Ensemble's Annette Philip, winning 'Songweavers 2023' with his song "Fools' Parade," and being longlisted for the Toto Music Awards 2023.
Imon's production debut came in May 2023 with Mumbai singer/songwriter Deepika Seth's single "Kahin Duur," featured on Spotify's "Fresh Finds India" and Resso's "Handpicked" playlists, garnering over 10,000 streams. On January 11, 2024, Imon released his debut single "Homage" and is currently working on his EP "Imon Vol. 1," set to release in the coming months.
Homage' - Imon
‘Homage’ is my tribute to the people I've grown up to idolize and admire, as much as it is about how we navigates the struggles and anxieties around being young and
passionate. The verses are almost like a catalogue of my fears- of death, ageing and being disillusioned with the dreams I have chosen to be mine. The outro of the song marks a triumph over these lingering
fears, drawing strength from the people I admire and the passion that they live by. These are the people I pay ‘homage’ to.
